If you reside in a place such as we do in Western New York (we’re in Rochester!) With superbly hot summers and cold snowy winters, you will know your options for your kid’s birthday party are largely dependent on the weather.
As an August baby, we always had small family parties outside at my house. However, with sons born in November and March, we’re constantly left to book an indoor venue for their celebrations, if we chose to have them that year. While those with kids with summer birthdays may seem blessed to have so many choices at their disposal, it may also often feel overwhelming.
While at Climbing Vines Cafe and Play we may be biased since we host indoor parties, I wanted to discuss with all the 5 most common reasons we hear out of past party clients to reserve indoor summer evenings with us. To these, the stress-free nature of the indoor summertime celebration is a no-brainer, plus they’re not looking back! After their first indoor summer party, they continue hosting with us year after year.

The most common reason for a customer to book a summer indoor celebration with us is so they don’t have to stem the weather prediction for updates in the weeks leading up to the party. Nothing can derail a fun party quicker than having to cram all your guests within your house, waiting for a storm to pass. And if you’ve ever needed to cancel or postpone your kid’s birthday because of weather, you realize how heartbreaking that can be.
We receive dozens of calls every summer a few days before someone’s outdoor celebration is supposed to happen to find out if we’ve got an open slot for them in our indoor celebration place because of weather woes. We can normally pull this off if the spot is open, but hosts will unfortunately have to scramble and let all their guests are aware of the change in place and likely change in time, and change all of their catering requests to accommodate their new party plan.
While of course rain is most likely the biggest obstacle you might face, extreme warmth, unseasonably cool weather, and end may also pose problems to your decorations, food, along with your guests’ possessions. You’ll probably find yourself investing in a tent or some other weather barrier simply to ease your mind a bit, which are costly and take a great deal of precious time to prepare and take down. I won’t even tell the narrative of the time my Dad put a tent up for a celebration in a windstorm and ended up with a insurance claim for 4 damaged automobiles when it blew away (weights and anchors and all!) …

Aside from the obvious weather worries you can avoid with an indoor celebration, there can also just be something so straightforward and lovely about a indoor summer party. Guests won’t need to be worried about bringing sunscreen and towels and towels and swimsuits and changes of clothing and insect spray… you understand.
Sometimes it’s nice to take a short break from the outside, sip coffee in an air-conditioned cafe, also have an actual conversation with other adults while the kids play, rather than chasing kids around trying to get their hat on them or keeping them away from the in-ground pool. I’m not sure about you, but I can never really relax at an outdoor summer birthday party with a 2 and a 4 year-old. While they sure do have a good time running around, we typically leave at a daze or with a tantrum, unsure if we even had the time to chat or check in with everybody.
While I absolutely love a fantastic barbecue or summer grilling extravaganza, I also find it refreshing when we can take a break from the same-old backyard bash and spend a few hours at a relaxing, cool, and most importantly– contained! — atmosphere.
It’s also freeing as a guest to have the rest of the day to do as we want as a family and not need to worry about getting the children into a bath immediately after the party or quitting home to cool off and change clothes.
I guarantee that in the event you book an indoor celebration for your son or daughter, guests (particularly family) may appear a bit confused at first (why not take advantage of the summer weather while we could, right?) But after hosting countless indoor parties I can tell you for sure that on the day-of, you and your guests will realize how pleasant it can be to kick back within an air-conditioned private celebration for a couple hours.

Speaking of how relaxing a indoor, air-conditioned party could be, how can we talk about food for a second?
Right now, my sweet 4 year-old boy is terrified of bees, and also the fastest way to send him into a tailspin is for him to sit down to eat a cupcake or his meal and also have bees swarming around. Therefore, for our family, the meals factor alone could be sufficient to warrant an indoor party.
Eating in peace without having to find shade or a chair or a place away from bugs is one of those things that you do not realize can be so glorious until you attend your fourth or fourth outside summer gathering and THEN get a break from them. Among the most common things we hear is how nice it’s to sit and eat and watch the kiddos play with no any other venue-related cares or concerns. This will be particularly important if you are going to be needing older family members attend who can struggle with being portable in the grass or arcade game (jerilynfernie811.wikidot.com) mud and locating seating at outdoor parties.
Don’t worry, we have you covered there, literally!

While celebration aesthetic might not be a determining factor for every household, it sure is much simpler to create a themed extravaganza which lighting a youngster’s face up when the party’s inside. The decorations demanded tend to be less because the place is smaller and contained contained, and you won’t need to be concerned about balloons and streamers blowing about or securing table covers .
Because we do host cellular events outdoors at Climbing Vines Cafe and Play, I will also speak from experience when I say the time it takes to install (and take down!) Decorations for an outside celebration compared to a indoor party usually ends up being at least double. Finding great places to hang banner, requiring two people to hold and secure everything, and finding weights or other restraints for everything may be a genuine hassle on celebration.
And you’ll have enough to be concerned about this afternoon, right?
Also, if your pinterest planks are filled with adorable figurines, a candy bar, or anything which could possibly be affected by wind (or bring bees!) You will likely have to restrategize to get an outdoor soiree.
And of course decor typically can only get used once if used outdoors, but repurposed again and if used for an indoor event. Our guests that host indoor events, notably those who spent significant money into decor or worked hard to make their own, are very happy to find they could usually make a huge chunk of the cash back by reselling their supplies on something like Facebook Marketplace.

Speaking of money, probably the greatest misconception I hear from clients is that they wish to sponsor a party at their house to save themselves the rental fee of an indoor space. I generally laugh at this because it makes great sense, that is, if you’ve never hosted an outdoor celebration.
With all of the”extras” like tents, chair rentals, additional decorations, weather reinforcements, cleanup provides, games and activities for your children (that you won’t need to supply at a play area!) It’s very possible you are going to wind up spending MUCH more hosting a party at your home or an outdoor place than you would indoors.
I’m not sure how other indoor spaces manage their supplies, but we only charge guests to get extra drinks and provides and these on the day of the celebration should they end up needing themand we also allow parties to bring in their OWN food, dessert, and decoration should they choose!
Money aside, spending countless hours cleaning before, during, and following the party may also take a toll. Wouldn’t it be nice to walk into a sparkling clean area and depart with your guests when the party’s over, not having to worry about the cleanup, garbage removal, tent teardown, etc?
You can just go home and unwind with your family (yes, possibly outside!) At a nice clean home that wasn’t just trampled by party guests and all their sand, grass, and sunscreen.
Along with the time spent cleaning prior to and after the party, would not it ALSO be nice to not have to play”server” during the event? Even for clients that make their own food and decor, our committed party assistants set up everything, refill and mend food and beverages as necessary, clear plates, cut and serve the cake, and then package up all the leftovers in the end of the celebration!
In the end, it is your child’s special day and you want to spend those precious hours making memories and seeing with your guests– not running around chasing your decorations or refilling the fruit bowl countless times.
So save everybody (and especially your own family!) We’d be honored to provide you with an easy, enjoyable experience that will leave your whole guest list feeling joyful, thankful, and full of love after having a relaxing (yet fun-filled!) day together.
